The Conference for Young Researchers in COMPosites
Attending conferences is becoming evermore difficult for early-career researchers in most fields of science due to the limited budget and increasing costs, mainly fees and accommodation, as most conferences are held in big cities. Furthermore, major conferences feature high-profile senior speakers in the technical program, which may lead to some reluctance amongst students to engage in deeper technical discussions, to share difficulties and challenges, or even to share non-work related experiences.
With a focus on affordability, all-inclusiveness and a dedicated social program, CYRCOMP'26 aims to provide a scientific gathering for young researchers in the field of composite materials in a more quaint and traditional setting of Portugal whilst fostering an easy atmosphere for young researchers to present their ideas and discuss with their peers.
In the sea-bathed city of Póvoa de Varzim, north of Porto, CYRCOMP'26 provides the perfect environment for sharing knowledge, with a strong focus on industry and academia, and a complementary social activities programme to indulge in.

"As a researcher who has just finished his PhD, the idea to make attending conferences a bit more affordable kept festering in my mind. I never had a classic-type scholarship during my 4-and-something years of PhD: I was part of a european project, then I spent some time looking for another project (luckily with great supervisors who could endorse me for a few months) and then I was in two 15-month PEX (Exploratory Projects) funded by FCT, the portuguese foundation for science and technology.
During the second one, JOIN3D, which is still ongoing (https://doi.org/10.54499/2023.15692.PEX), we were, as at most starts of the year, looking at which conferences to go to, according to alloted budget which, as I'm sure you don't need reminding, is always quite tight, even considering student registration prices.
So, we gathered a team of enthusiastic young researchers and, together, we present to you the first edition of the Conference for Young Researchers in COMPosites!
It is with great pleasure and joy that I welcome you to my city to share with you what we hope will be a great event! Enjoy, learn and have fun! "
